Right now (Nov. 2005) the heavy-duty advertising is behind Microsoft's latest game, Age of Empires III. Save yourself some money and grab Rise of Nations Gold instead. It features significant gameplay improvements over the much acclaimed Age of Empires II - The Age of Kings. I especially like the fact that it spans all of history from the Dark ages right through the Information Age. When you advance to the modern era you gain access to most of today's military hardware. By the time you are done playing with all these cool toys yup might find that the initial release $60 price of AoE3 has dropped significantly and that you can grab it along with the inevitable expansion pack for around $40 - just like you can today with RoN Gold. If you like action, and are good at making on the spot dicisions, then this game is for you. If you are not that good of a gamer, then you will enjoy it anyway, because on low difficulty it is still fun to play. However, if you like complex gameplay with lots of opportunitys to make tactical dicisions, I would not bother buying this. It incorporates a simple, "get as big an army as you can and blow the aponnant off the map" style of gameplay. The graphics are only so-so for todays standards, but this is perhaps a good thing, as it more than lives up to it's 'teen' rating.
